Sometimes a sweet tooth can be relentless. If I smell chocolate, hear someone talk about it, see it, or think about it, I can barely contain myself from grabbing as much of it as I can. I admit, I’m a chocoholic.
While there are tips like this one that help you stay away from sweets, the ultimate tip would be to get rid of sweets from your house or work area altogether.
I know many people have a sweets drawer in their desk at work, or a shelf in their cupboard that’s loaded with unhealthy snacks.
If you’re trying to lose weight, then the first thing you should do is to empty your sweets drawer and junk shelf. Give it to someone else or just throw it away.
Sometimes ‘out of sight, out of mind’ will do the trick and you can store it away where you’ll forget about it. But if you’re a die-hard sweets lover like me, that just doesn’t work.
Just bite the bullet and get rid of it. Don’t put it off until tomorrow – do it now! Once you’ve done it, avoid buying those types of foods from now on.
To keep from binging on the times when you are around sweets (like staff parties, family get-togethers, etc.) allow yourself a small portion and then WALK AWAY! Have someone keep you accountable if you don’t think you can control yourself.
You can also keep things on hand in your own home that will help satisfy your cravings, like fat free pudding, yogurt, hot chocolate made with water or skim milk, etc.
The key here is to get rid of the temptation so you won’t have to avoid it in the first place. After a few weeks, you should find that your cravings will go away and you’ll be able to control your portions better when you do decide to treat yourself.
