Burn the Fat, DON’T Starve the Muscle

Have you drastically reduced your caloric intake but still can’t lose weight?

You may actually be eating too little. A lot of people think that if they cut their calories down to next to nothing that the fat will melt off quickly, but it’s just not the case.

When you don’t eat enough calories, your body goes into starvation mode. Essentially, it thinks that it won’t be getting any more food for a long time so what it does is stores every last calorie you eat instead of using it as fuel.

Drastically cutting calories like this is the worst thing you can do when trying to lose weight and burn fat because it kills your metabolism. After only a few days of this your metabolism will drop and you’ll have to work hard to get it back up.

I know people who eat like birds and their weight always stays the same even though they’d like to lose a few more pounds of body fat. I also know people who eat small meals regularly throughout the day and everyone envies how thin and fit looking they are.

If you’re serious about losing weight and you’re willing to put in an effort then you need to read Burn The Fat Feed The Muscle by Tom Venuto. He squashes all those weight loss myths and just gets straight to the meaty stuff. BUT, do not read this book if you’re just going to starve yourself and sit on the couch all day watching TV because that obviously won’t get you anywhere.

Tom’s approach in my opinion is the best one because he explains how to burn fat without starving to death. In fact, he encourages you to eat regularly. There’s also something about how he explains everything that makes it all so simple. I’ve also been more motivated than I’ve ever been to eat healthy and exercise after reading it.

Before reading Burn the Fat, I had a pair of jeans from high school that I kept to remind myself of how thin and fit I used to be. After my pregnancies (and just a few short months ago) I couldn’t even get those jeans past my knees. Now I can pull them all the way up and button them! I can’t tell you how great that feeling is. And I couldn’t have done it without the knowledge I gained from reading Tom’s book.

So if you’re one of those people who claim that they’ve tried ‘everything’, then you haven’t read Burn The Fat yet. It will probably be the last book you’ll ever need to read about losing fat.
