A few months ago, when I was in a relationship, late night snacking was becoming habit for me again. Unfortunately for me, the guy I was dating happened to own a pizza franchise here in town. That meant we could order pizza any time we wanted with a few clicks of a button on my computer.
This happened quite frequently as you can imagine, and eating at night soon became the norm again. On the nights I wasn’t eating pizza, I was snacking on something else. Eventually the relationship ended, but the snacking didn’t. Not only was I in the habit of eating at night, but I was depressed which didn’t help. I tend to eat a lot more and a lot less healthy when I’m depressed.
I’ve been single again for awhile now, and I’m happy to report that the late-night snacking has ceased!
I’ve tackled my cravings, eliminated the triggers, and am feeling much healthier and happier again.
There are a few things I’ve done to combat the cravings, but one of the biggest things was to stop watching so much TV at night. It’s impossible for me to give up all my favourite prime time shows, so when I do watch TV, I make sure to busy myself during the commercials. Seeing all those commercials about food was making me think I was hungry and needed to eat.
If I’m feeling energetic, I’ll do some vigorous cleaning during commercials which helps burn a few calories. If I’m feeling particularly lazy, I’ll grab a book or magazing and read it during the breaks. Whatever it takes to peel my eyes off the TV while the show isn’t on. It really does work. It made a HUGE difference for me.
