If you’re going to drink, make it red wine

Those jingle bells are getting louder every day, and lots of you may have already attended numerous Christmas parties or gatherings. There is one big day (or three big days in my family) where we all gather around to eat and drink all day long. Starting on Christmas eve and ending on Boxing day, we enjoy each other’s company which is usually accompanied by a lot of alcohol – unhealthy, calorie-laden alcohol.

My family are mostly beer drinkers and I usually opt for light beer myself, but I always feel so full and bloated after having a few (and guilty for drinking all those empty calories). This year however, I’m going to try something different.

I read a post over at Mark’s Daily Apple about drinking red wine for your health. I’m not a huge wine drinker but this post gives us four good reasons why we should consider it as an alternative to our standard alcohol of choice.

  1. Possible boost in Omega-3
  2. Might protect against aging
  3. May help fight Alzheimer’s
  4. It tastes great!

There are still studies being done to help solidify the first three findings, but since we’re 100% positive about the last one, why not help yourself to a glass? It’s one of the best things you can drink if you’re going to consume alcohol.

Just make sure you don’t drink and drive! All the Omega-3, anti-aging, Alzheimer fighting wine in the world can’t protect you from being a moron and hurting yourself or someone else.
