How NOT to lose weight!

We all know how bad hospital food is, but can you imagine being on a strict low fat diet for two months in the hospital?

It is one way to lose weight, but not one I would recommend.

For starters, I was 30 weeks pregnant when I was first admitted to hospital. While the doctors were doing numerous tests to see why I was having chronic pain, they wouldn’t let me have anything to eat or even a sip of water.

When they discovered that I had gallstones, they put me on a strict low fat diet, starting with clear fluids like soup broth then upgrading me to full fluids then eventually solid foods.

The food was so disgusting that on one desperate occasion, I asked my husband to sneak in a McDonald’s cheeseburger. I don’t think I’ve ever eaten anything that tasted so good! I sure paid for it later when I had another gall bladder attack. I still think it was worth it though.

During the last few weeks before I gave birth to my son, I started to lose weight. I had been using morphine every day for the pain of having gall bladder attacks. Even though the nurses were giving me Gravol along with the morphine, it was still making me nauseous, and most days I couldn’t eat anything and if I did, I just vomited right after.

Now that I’m back home two weeks after having my son, I weigh less than I did when I first got pregnant. Even though I’m happy that my jeans are looser than they were last time I put them on, I’m not happy about the way I lost the weight. I was supposed to be gaining weight during my pregnancy, not losing it!

But for those of you struggling with weight loss, I can tell you this. Getting sick and spending two months in the hospital will definitely do the trick! It’s just not something I would recommend.
