Even if your snacks are healthy, too much of a good thing is still bad. Overeating is a common obstacle for anyone trying to lose weight. Here are some tips to avoid binging, even on healthy foods.
- Only eat as much as you can fit in the palm of your hand. You can still get your fix, but without all the calories.
- Plan snacks in advance. If it comes in a large bag or container, divvy it up in single serving sizes ahead of time. When it’s time for a snack, grab one serving and put the container away.
- Choose filling snack foods that are high in fibre like fruits, vegetables and whole grains to keep you feeling full longer – while eating less.
- Keep your mind occupied with something after snacking to prevent yourself from going for a second serving. Boredom can often lead people to the fridge or cupboard.
- Drink some water if you think you’re still hungry after your snack. Many times, dehydration is actually mistaken as hunger.
