Whether it’s the headlines from magazines, or advertisements on TV, the old adage, “Don’t believe everything you read.” really comes to play.
I see headlines in women’s magazines that read “Lose 10 pounds in a week” or “Get toned abs in just 8 minutes“. This drives me utterly crazy! First of all, if you could get toned abs in 8 minutes, everybody would have them. Secondly, it’s unhealthy to lose more than 2 pounds each week unless it’s water weight or if you are extremely overweight and have a lot of fat to lose.
These outrageous claims are leaving out a very important piece of information. It takes a healthy diet plus regular physical exercise to lose weight. Burning more calories than what you eat in a day is the key to shedding pounds. Plain and simple. Anyone else who tells you otherwise is flat out lying!
If you look at the tiny print underneath the advertised products, you’ll see things like “results not typical“. They may also go on to explain that the subjects they used their products on ate a healthy diet and exercises regularly. Hmm, isn’t that what you were trying to avoid by getting their product? Before you give in to marketing claims, think realistically and read the fine print.
