9 Ways to Boost Metabolism

1. Weight Training – Muscle burns calories more efficiently than fat does, so it makes sense that the more muscle mass you have, the more calories you burn. Just one pound of muscle burns 35 calories each day. One pound of fat only burns 2 calories per day. Which would you rather have?

2. Eliminate Stress - Numerous studies and research have shown that stress is a definite factor in weight gain, especially around the abdomen. Abdominal fat is the most dangerous fat to have, so come up with some strategies to reduce the stress in your life. By reducing stress, you’ll increase your metabolism.

3. Breakfast - Your metabolism will kick in sooner if you eat a healthy breakfast. High-fibre cereals, low-fat milk and fresh fruit are the best foods to start out your day with. Aim to eat around 300-400 calories.

4. Grazing – Eating smaller, more frequent meals will keep your blood sugar stable and therefor, your metabolism will be running in full gear all day long. Many people like to eat 2 or 3 big meals throughout the day, but in fact, you should be eating 3 smaller meals with healthy snacks in between.

5. Water – Everyone should be drinking at least 8 glasses of water each day. That’s 64 ounces. By drinking enough water, you’ll snack less and provide your body with plenty of other healthful benefits.

6. Keep Moving – Any little movement will burn calories, even smiling and kissing. Choose activities you enjoy and keep your day busy with plenty of fun things to do. Walks with your pet or family, playing in the backyard, or swimming at the community pool will help you stay in shape and keep your metabolism running.

7. Leave the Lightest for Last – Save your lightest meal for the end of the day. In the mornings, the calories you eat should be burned easily enough throughout the day, but a heavier meal at the end of the day won’t. By leaving your smallest meal for last, you’re still giving your body a chance to use it all as fuel before going to bed rather than storing it as fat.

8. Don’t Starve Yourself – You’re actually slowing your metabolism down if you deprive your body of it’s fuel.
Your body will automatically store what little food it receives as fat because it knows it won’t be getting any for a long period of time. By putting your body into starvation mode, you’re basically training yourself to burn less calories.

9. Aerobics – By adding an aerobic exercise to your daily routine, you’ll automatically boost metabolism throughout the day. The best time to do aerobics is in the morning.
