If you’re serious about losing weight, then one of the things you must do is keep a food journal. It’s crucial to keep track of what you’re eating because you need to make sure you’re eating less calories than you’re burning.
When you first start losing weight, write down your starting weight. Weigh yourself first thing in the morning before you eat anything. Now don’t weigh yourself for at least another week.
Now get out a journal, notepad, post-it…whatever. Just write down everything you’re eating and when. Have a column for calories so you can add up how many you’ve eaten throughout the day. If you have to measure your food, then do it. It’s very important.
If you’re not aware of how much you’re putting into your body, then you will after doing this. Another benefit of keeping a food journal is it will keep you from eating things that you shouldn’t be when you realize how much they sabotage your weight loss.
After the end of each day, you can look over your food journal and see what you should be eating more off and what you shouldn’t be eating at all. Believe me, it will really put things into perspective.
So if you want to lose weight, don’t keep telling yourself you’ll start tomorrow, or next week, or next month. Do it now. Get on that scale and dig out an old notebook and start right away. There’s not an excuse good enough to stop you.
There are lots of ways to keep a journal, but I prefer to keep an actual diet journal specifically designed for keeping track of food, calories, exercise, etc.
Whatever works for you, do it! It may just be the key to keep you motivated and successful in losing weight and keeping it off.
