Now that my surgery is over with and I’m feeling a bit better, I’ve been a lot more focused on what I eat. I hate to admit that for awhile, I had slipped into a dark place filled with late night snacks and inactivity. However, I’m quickly turning it around again and I wanted to share my new favourite breakfast with you.

Original Shredded Wheat with Vanilla Soy Milk and Bananas

Now, I’m talking about the Shredded Wheat that comes in those big biscuits, not the little ones that are frosted on one side. Original Shredded Wheat is 100% whole wheat. The other stuff is 100% crap.

Adding soy milk to your cereal instead of regular milk gives you an extra boost of protein and a few other healthy goodies. Not only that, but it adds a bit of flavour as well.

I choose to cut up a banana for my cereal since I happen to have a lot on hand. My kids are banana fiends so you’ll never find less than two bunches in my house at one time. Unfortunately, bananas are pretty high in sugar, so you can opt to sprinkle your cereal with a fruit that contains less sugar, like raspberries.

According to my calculations, my Spruced Up Shredded Wheat has:

375 calories

4 grams of fat (but most of this is the good fat like Omega-3 and Omega-6)

9 grams of fiber (a great way to start the day, if you catch my drift)

23 grams of sugar (mostly naturally occurring sugar if that’s any consolation)

13 grams of protein (protein helps keep you feeling full for a longer period of time)

So, two Shredded Wheat biscuits, one cup of soy milk, and a banana. I have trouble eating all of that so I’m going to try eating just one biscuit next time. I love that I feel so full after eating this. Normally I would rather eat cardboard than a Shredded Wheat biscuit, but the soy milk and fruit add a really good flavour that I wouldn’t mind eating every morning. Try it for yourself.

Planning out my meals is definitely the biggest reason why I went from having a muffin top to having a flat stomach. Doing the actual meal planning however is not fun, especially when I’m feeling less than inspired. It’s also time consuming, and I just don’t have the time to sit down and plan each meal when I have two children. So YAY for Menu Planning Central for offering this free report.

Ingredients:
In a small saucepan, bring small amount of water to boil, then add chopped onion and apple. Boil for 5 minutes, then drain. In a bowl, combine, cooked apple and onion with remaining ingredients. Pour into a small casserole dish and bake for 45 minutes at 350F. Stir halfway through baking.

This recipe is great for a healthy sidedish and it’s easy to pack and reheat for lunches. I was skeptical about making it at first, but in the end it tasted great. If you plan on making it for your family, you may want to double the ingredients and make 8 servings instead of 4.

So you’ve decided to start eating healthy and lose weight. That’s great. The problem is, you’re used to cooking high-fat meals and eating out when you don’t feel like cooking at all. Don’t worry. I’ve been there. And it’s a hard position to get out of.

Eating a certain way for years is a hard habit to break. But if you’re like me, you just need a little kick in the butt and some directions. I find it’s easier to have a menu planned for the whole week and just do grocery shopping according to that week’s menu. What’s even easier is having that menu prepared for you with the grocery list included. What’s even better than that is the nutritional information is displayed with each recipe.

How do you get all this?

You can try the Healthy Meny Mailer for FREE for seven days. If you don’t believe me, see for yourself. Get your Free Sample Menu now.
